HARVEST FEST @ Eastern Market 10/24/09.
Join us this weekend… check out the Orbitsun’s, taste some good brews, and look for our friendly faces. We will be passing out some samples of new stuff from Detroit Body Grease.
Harvest Fest at Eastern Market
The Eastern Market is one of the nation’s oldest farm markets and the area is ripe with brewing history. In its heyday, there were more than 40 breweries in the Market area and malt silos still stand as a testament to the rich brewing history.
We are expecting more than 40 Michigan microbreweries and brewpubs to participate and there will be nearly 200 different beers available to sample. Enthusiast Members of the Michigan Brewers Guild will be allowed to enter the Festival an hour early at Noon. The Festival will take place in the parking area near shed #5 and there is ample parking in the surrounding area. Read the Full Article at the Metro Times

Please go through your things and Donate what you do not need..please!!
At first, William Carter admits, he was a beggar. He’d pilot his three-wheeled electric scooter to the corner and hold up a sign: “Disabled. Please help.”
Or something like that. It’s been so long, he doesn’t remember exactly what he wrote. But there’s no sign anymore, and no beggar, either, not the way he sees it.
Carter, 58, has spent close to four years of weekdays at Beaubien Street and the I-94 service drive in Detroit, rain or shine or whatever nature offers. He’s on the westbound side in the morning and the eastbound in the afternoon, and sure, he’ll still take your dollar if you roll down your window and offer.
He says there’s a purpose to his presence now, though. Read the full Article . OPINION0308

The Michigan Central Station in Detroit is a favorite subject for journalists to illustrate the city's downfall. (SUSAN TUSA/Detroit Free Press)
We’ve all seen the startling images of abandoned buildings.
When a national media outlet comes to do a story on downtrodden Detroit, where do they send the photographer?
Easy.
The Michigan Central Station, Packard Plant or Fisher Body Plant.
NPR’s “On the Media” did a story on the phenomenon recently, calling the images of destruction “ruin porn.”
NPR talked to Thomas Morton, who wrote on the topic for Vice magazine last month in a story headlined “Something, something, something Detroit: Lazy journalists love pictures of abandoned stuff.”
Morton told NPR’s Bob Garfield that some photographers frame photos in just a way that leaves out any sign of prosperity, focusing only on the destruction.
“I think when you’re presented with a photo and then a little bit of description of it, the image stands so strongly that it’s almost hard to argue it,” Morton told NPR. “You’re throwing what seem like minor quibbles at this shot of utter desolation.”
